One question I get asked a lot by randoms is “how long have you been growing your hair (dreads, locs, etc)?”
Today I noticed that down near the end of one of my locs there is a rubber band, stuck there, twisted and gnarled. I’ve cut my hair several times since I started growing the [...]

This person, whom I tend to doubt has any real power, said in the comments section of a post I made about the post-election state of the national GOP that he would not be giving any “blacks” an “even break.” He will never even hire another Black, because of their vote for Obama.
Wes, hate [...]

Eric Crafton, Mr. English Only, doesn’t even have to use the old “my best friends are foreigners” routine to defend himself against accusations of being racist. He married one. At the time they married, he was the foreigner though, when he married his wife in Japan.
I don’t think I’ve ever run into Crafton [...]

I thought this would make a great album cover, except there are no more albums. The band would be named something like Strawberry Denim and they would play a mix of rap and power pop. Pitchfork would proclaim the record an astonishing mix of brash, urban grooves and sweet pop melodies [...]

Before I was sucked into the bowels of mainstream politics by the lure of late night bashes with lobbyists and White House soirées, I was strictly on the protest politics tip. I’ve done the sit-ins, lived in the shanty towns, marched the march. I’m all for tactics of civil disobedience.
I didn’t like what happened to [...]

I didn’t notice this until a few days after April 1st, and thought I’d pass it along. It’s probably only funny to film geeks and/or movie critics or the people who fancy themselves as being a member of either group, such as myself.
When you check this out, please examine the fake ads on the right [...]

Found this in my Email box this morning.
The management of AZN Television regrets to announce that the channel will be taken off the air effective April 9 at 12 p.m.
AZN was having difficulty gaining advertisers and distribution. After considerable review of the network’s financial situation, it was decided that it was no longer financially viable.
We [...]

MC Verb is in town and I’m staying busy so I’ll be away this week. Hopefully I’ll have some pictures of his visit, he brought his wife and little girl all the way from Crooklyn just to pay us a little visit.
Guess it’s good timing at least as far as the blog is concerned, as [...]

First:
“I predict there’s a book deal evolving out of this . . .”
Then:
The author of Stuffwhitepeoplelike has his “whiteness studies” jargon down pat, but the thing about whiteness studies is that it exists to dismantle white supremacy (or at least purports to). In contrast, Stuffwhitepeoplelike in the main seems to exist to display the author’s [...]

Props to bridgett for reminding me that we Dorks have a friend named Shiho and she is a talented photographer. On her Web site she has some great pictures from the Iowa caucuses, some pictures of folks you might recognize.
I also forgot to plug the appearance of my UNC bud on Leno tonight. He’s Brian [...]
