Teriyaki Boyz return, this time toting Kanye West

January 31, 2007

After some wise movie exec (Dork Nation reader?) stuck the Teriyaki Boyz collaboration with Pharrell on the Tokyo Drift soundtrack, tons of Mowota and anime nerds cried as for a brief moment, Japanese rap music stole the spotlight from pop idols and noise bands. Rather than let their Western notariety slide, the “super group” rap combo hooked up with Kanye West for a kind of answer song to Common’s I Used to Love H.E.R,” called “I Still Love H.E.R.” (stands for honto e rap in this case)

The video exemplifies the group’s tongue in cheek bent. It’s pretty clever. I’ve not much love for Kanye, still for pop rap, this is good. They’re still basically a billboard for BAPE clothes, but well, that’s what the kids are into these days.
