Duke Carolina pt 2: No Time to Gloat (much)
First, let’s talk about the foul. Avowed Tar Heel hater Billy Packer kept going ON AND ON about how that wasn’t intentional. Unless Gerald Henderson was stuck in a time warp, Packer should have seen that Henderson came in late and with anger. The ball was long gone. This is Duke’s character as a team (as an institution?). We’ve all known this since Christian Laetner stomped on that dude’s chest. They normally get away with it because of their reputation, because of Coach K and his crying over his guys. Today, they did not get away with it.
We’ll take all responsibility, but if there’s any way Gerald Henderson did that intentionally, that’s crazy. That’s not the way he plays and not the way we play. … I feel badly for Tyler and what happened, but there was no intent. The game was over before that. I mean the outcome of the game, let’s put it that way. That’s unfortunate, too, that those people were in the game in that play. Maybe this wouldn’t have happened.
So, RFB (rat faced bas***d), Hansbrough shouldn’t have been in the game so your boys, who are taught to fight like like Abu Ghraib prison guards wouldn’t have had the opportunity for another cheap shot. There is no doubt that at the very least Henderson was “caught up in the moment,” if not coming for his pound of flesh. This was the stuff that could make Albert Haynesworth go “Daaayuummn.”
The Heels played the way they’re capable of as a team. Even though it is the rivarly of the ages, still this year playing well against Duke doesn’t appear to be a difficult task (unless you’re on the K-1 circuit) Lawson is making better decisions at the point and everything seemed to click. Who knows if any of this will stick through the rest of March? A #1 seed in the NCAA is still not a lock at this point. Win the ACC tournament and there’s no question. Lose, and the top seed is in doubt. Still, a #2 is nothing terrible considering the way the team has played at times. It might save the Heels from having to face Ohio State with Greg Odom.
Props to the Lady Heels for winning the ACC tournament. I expect them to win the NCAA.
