GOP Talking Point #22: Obama is an Affirmative Action Candidate
Sadly, this stupidity spills from the lips of another Democrat, former Vice-Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro.
If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.
By “position” we assume she means “leading in the Democratic primary.” By “concept” she means “the novelty of having an African-American, nay, mulatto as a viable candidate for POTUS.”
Of course, all manner of questions are begged. If Hillary Clinton was married to oh, James Taylor, she would not be in this position. And if she were a man (of any color) she would be a pioneer for the rights of GLBT people to marry. And the country wouldn’t give a fuck, likely.
Considering past transgressions, I would think that the Clinton team should hold a Surrogate School, with Penn up front armed with a laser pointer showing surrogates what NOT to say. Then again, Ferraro, who some might argue may not have been chosen to fill the VP slot back in the day if she were a man, should bloody well know better. I don’t watch Fox News but I’m sure there was a lot of high fiving going on in the news room. Meanwhile, over at stormfront the nutters are quite pleased, as this statement by Ferraro seems to speak for them as well. What say you now, Sean Wilentz?
As we slog on through towards November and the Democrats lie about punch drunk from taking big, looping swings at each other in the end, clearly we do ourselves a disservice. While Clinton’s team try vainly to revive her chances of winning by bloodying Obama, the party only looses. It’s something that bears repeating.
I suppose, though, if you’ve a vested interest in Clinton winning the nomination, there’s nothing out of bounds now considering the delegate count.
