BRACKETS! 2008 Version: Only Just Begun
The Tar Heels rolled over poor Mount Saint Mary’s. I didn’t get to see the game because oba-chan likes to shop, plus, the local stations were showing Vanderbilt getting pummeled by Siena. How embarrassing. I wont rub it in too much.
Even more embarrassing was Duke coach Mike “The Rat” Krzyzewski blaming Duke’s struggle with lowly Belmont on his flu and high fever. “It was hard for me to call timeouts,” he whined. Dude, your assistants aren’t mute, they can talk. It’s a down year for Duke, their win at Carolina this year needs an asterisk because of Lawson missing the game. Face it that you don’t have the #1 team this year and move on.
Not a good weekend for Middle Tennessee teams. In addition to Vandy’s loss, Austin Peay was bounced by Texas as expected. However, the other two Tennessee teams, Memphis and UT moved on. Question for UT fans; what is going on with Lofton and big games? I understand that AU had a defense developed to stop him, however there appears to be a pattern of him fading in big games.
The other big news this weekend was all the upsets last night as the lower seeds beat the higher seeds. I don’t think there’s all that much difference between a 10 and a 7 or an 8 and a 9, so we should take the word “upset” with a grain of salt. However, I was a bit surprised at Gonzaga losing to Davidson. I suppose I shouldn’t be. Davidson played very well against UNC during the regular season. Put Davidson on your upset watch.
Kansas St.’s win against USC should not be counted as an upset.
The weekend isn’t over, and there will be some good games tomorrow. Duke and West Va and the Pitt vs Michigan St. match ups should be the best. I hope coach K drank plenty of fluids and has a box of Luden’s in his pocket tomorrow.
