Tyler Zeller Injury Report

November 19, 2008

The Raleigh News and Observer’s ACC Now blog quotes Luke Zeller, Tyler’s brother who plays ball at Notre Dame as saying that his younger brother has broken his wrist in two places and will need screws. No word on how long he will be out, but he will miss the Maui Invitational at least. The break isn’t on his shooting hand, so he will probably be playing with a cast at least by January if not sooner. The injury leaves the Heels without one of their star freshman, however, with a team as loaded as theirs they could lose one or two more and still be the top team in the country.

The other Tyler, Hansbrough, is still in a suit on the bench during games and no word yet as when he will play. With millions of dollars on the line for his professional future, don’t look to him to rush things just because of Zeller’s injury. Keep in mind his father is an orthopedic surgeon and will offer his son sound advice on the potential of a stress fracture.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who was asking, what is Zeller doing in the game with a minute and a half left with injuries to two key players already? Fortunately Zeller didn’t hurt his shooting hand. Still, Coach Williams decision to get the kid some work could have haunted him for the rest of the season, if not for the rest of his life.

Meanwhile, sounds like T.J. Yates is back in form for the football team and there is suddenly a quarterback “controversy.” I don’t know what the controversy is, he’s a better QB clearly. I’m thinking Yates at 90% is better than Sexton at 100%.

That is not good news. Zeller being out doesn’t sink the season, but I was looking forward to seeing the kid develop as an ACC player. And I was excited to see both Tylers and Thompson on the floor at one point.

I agree on the Yates/Sexton question. There is simply no question.
